We all know that life is not perfect, and sometimes we find setbacks on our way. We want to believe that we are immune to injuries, but truth is that they may happen to everyone. This week has been about realizing that if I don’t listen to my body, I could get injured.
It all started a few weeks ago when I started feeling a slight pain in the knee. I had my bike adjusted, and the pain disappeared. However, my other knee started aching when I ran. Apparently our bodies try to cope with pain on one side by relying more on the other side, adding additional pressure. That happens with our legs, feet, shoulders, etc. Therefore, the new pain began.
And well, the best way to stay happy and motivated is finding silver linings. This week I traveled 3,241Km (2,014 Mi) to Guatemala and my bike came with me! I will have two weeks to spend time with my loved ones, and train in a different environment.
Totals: December 15th – 20th
Swimming: 4.5 Km (2.8 Mi)
Cycling: 61.89 Km (38.5 Mi)
Running: 11.15 Km (6.9 Mi)
My goal last week was to train for 6 days, and I just trained for 4 days due to traveling and recovering from my knee. I cut short two runs, and skipped one. I’ve been taking it easy with running. Swimming has been my preferred sport thanks to the lack of impact in my knee. I had my longest swim without stopping or using any training gear. It felt good during the whole time, since I’m not worrying about speed, but endurance.
And cycling… I cycled for 3 hours, which has probably been my longest ride in terms of time, not distance. I did it on a trainer, and I swear the one I used creates more resistance than the one I have at home, since I stayed all the time at a much lower speed. And yes, this information was given by my Garmin speed sensor (maybe you remember last week I complained about it). I’ve noticed that I can get a clear read on speed or cadence, but not both at the same time.
So that’s it. This week I plan to enjoy a lot, and not stress too much about training. I know I’m not far away from my first triathlon, but taking it easy this week will help me recover and get back strong on January. And well, I’m off to do some cross-training, A.K.A. Christmas shopping!
Enjoy the week!
